Posting Quirks

Aha, thought I should just make a list of how Dexter usually interacts within posts and thread replies.

Post Emoticons
None. At all. Most of the time, Dexter would only make a post of neutral nature (in terms of outward appearance) and therefore would not require any indication of mood at all. The only times when he would be putting up emoticons are when he's either trying very very hard to trick others into thinking he's normal -- usually moods of positive nature -- OR when he's stressed to the point where his emotions just overflow, these being negative ones like anger, frustration, instability.

The use of italics
As was mentioned before, Dexter thinks. A LOT. Both in the book and series as well. And due to his almost impenetrable mask, the only way that anyone in the rp would be able to see what he's thinking is through italics. So yes, while he's being all jolly jolly good, he's thinking other things in that mind of his. Hur hur.

Animals.
They do not like him, and will tend to either shy away or make alot of noise. It's been implied that this is due to the Dark Passenger -- his inner demon that compels him to kill -- not to mention that Dexter as a kid killed alot of animals. Especially noisy ones. This applies especially to dogs and canines. He's yet to know about the springs, and until then any chara-turned-animal will get the cold shoulder from him, and will be privy to seeing a smidgen of the real Dexter. Tone of voice to imagine when dealing with you: flat, perhaps a hint of animosity.

Children.
He loves children, so whenever he meets one he'll be inclined to either give a helping hand (if needed), talk amiably and generally be very communicative -- this includes but is not limited to an open stance, positive body language, and being touch feely no NOT that kind of touchy feely, but more of the Good Guy Dad kinda touchy feely. D: I mean, the man put July up on his shoulders and marched around with the boy!

Also, from what I've seen in the series, Dexter definitely connects more with boys than girls. Probably because of his own lost childhood, he tends to feel a closer bond with boy kids. Whenever he's talking to kids his tone of voice will be light, cheerful and extremely sincere.

When he's emotional.
He'll try to compensate for them by being overly flippant, distracted and matter of fact. You might notice him trying too hard to smile, and his eyes unfocused. Or if he realises that communicating is not a safe option, will run from confrontation or tone it down by busying himself with other chores. This would be a bad time to push him with questions or to much talking because he will snap and hit you. Hard.

Dexter on supernatural forces.

From what's been shown so far , Dexter is not an ignorant man from a religious point of view. While he wouldn't be well versed in the stories of the bible, somehow I can imagine him knowing more than your usual bloke, just so that when the situation arises when he has to be a little religious to be normal, he can do so with ease. If anything, he would think religion to be more of a test of whose god is whose rather than a path of enlightenment for knowledge's sake.

Dexter definitely does not think himself human, and therefore through a very straightforward string of logic, thinks himself unworthy to fall under the guidance of a nonexistent being aka God. To him, religion requires faith, a blind devotion to a power so great that one could only bow at its feet and revel in His divinity, or perhaps fear judgement should one sin during their lifetime. To Dexter, not only does he not qualify from the get go, he thinks that blind devotion is a dangerous dangerous element. It implies opening himself to something of the unknown, and connecting with that. And safe to say, the man is terrified of connecting with anyone or anything. So he denies the entrance of religion into his life, and gets particularly annoyed when faced with a prayer. To quote him in the first episode, when his first kill -- who was a priest -- prayed nervously to God in Dexter's presence, "Stop it, stop it. That [prayers] never helped anyone." Dexter then proceeded to harras the old bugger for dumping the bodies of kids and killing him.

Not to say that he would directly reject religion in the face if he were to come face to face with a religious figure. Oh no. As with all people he communicates with, Dexter would be most like unassuming and courteous, all the while rebutting their eulogies of faith and divinity within his head. He might even go to a church mass on Sunday (probably only after much coercion in the form of Rita and the kids) and listen in on the sermons, but that's about as far as he would go. All advise would fall on deaf ears, and what you would get at the end of it is a mildly weary Dexter from having to attend a boring talk show and smiling so much.

And since he's not religious, he damn well doesn't believe in ghosts. Or the boogeyman or shadow evil type things that go bump in the night. From his childhood days he had a mind that only contemplated logic and the tangibility of an object, and I can only assume that most of his knowledge of ghosts would spawn from tales told by his friends or even his sister. The ones that usually end with a friend jumping towards him for shock value. Sure he would be caught off gaurd by that, but scared? Pssh. To his rational mind it would be all stories concocted with no real evidence at hand, and would consider them stupid tactics into scaring children his age.

That's why when he met Osamu the ghost hunting dude, Dexter was ready to categorize him as a lying cad. As if there weren't other cushy jobs to take place of your original one if you didn't want a man knowing too much about you. However, this preconception was due for change when Wonderwice and Viral came into the picture. and the zonbies. ooohhhh the zombies. Clearly, things were not normal on the island, and Dexter was certainly not on drugs or any substances at the time.

It's safe to say now that the succession of events has quickly changed Dexter's view on the supernatural, but not his beliefs and principles regarding a higher power in general. For while he is conscious that the dead can come back and non-humans live on the island, it's only a rule that adheres to the landmass itself, not for the world he knows back home. In a way of coping, Dexter is most likely to just treat things and people the way they are here, and not question their origins or logic. It would make life a whole lot easier, this action of going with the flow and give him more brain space to contemplate more important things at hand.

First Impressions

A database of who Dexter has spoken to. Hee.

Osamu Yasuhara - Dex finds him strange and rather silly to be pursuing a career in chasing ghosts. Pegs him as a non-threatening individual, and is easily dimissive of the man. However he seems like a nice guy, and probably deserves being alive despite his ghost hunting 'job'.

Faye - First woman (in all senses of the word) to cross his path! Completely neutral towards the sex suit, and sadly Faye's sexual qualities as well. She's a nice enough person he thinks, since she took the liberty to actually explain to him what the island was.

Ironfist Fullbody - He reminds Dexter alot about Angel from back home. A little out there with his speech pattern and the ability to give more information that one would usually be inclined to within a conversation. He seems so clueless and involved with his own matters, that Dex can at least ease off on his mask a little without too much worry of being found out. At this moment, though he wouldn't admit it, Dexter would feel most comfortable (or as comfortably as he can be, pretending) with Ironfist.

Haine - Albinism is fascinating, but guns? No. <strike>At this point he wonders if Haine has killed anybody, and if so, did these people deserve it. Would probably never get to that point of conversation though, considering how volatile and guarded Haine is by first impression.</strike> Alright, so Haine has admitted to killing someone for the heck of it for a pretty petty reason. And word is that this guy's alive and kicking, which is a great, because Dexter sure as hell wants to meet this dude who came back from the dead. So he's got a self confessed murderer on his hands, so now what? Considering the dead have indeed been resurrected, the Code of Harry doesn't quite apply, so it's likely that Dexter will be holding off any kills for the time being.

Also from what Haine had depicted as him being 'too normal' has got Dexter a little bit worried. Has he been doing things all wrong? Does the island have its own sets of rules when it comes to the concept of normal? Regardless of Haine's ludicrous ways of associating TV normal with reality normal, Dexter's just a little bit paranoid now, and will probably be a little inconsistent in his socializing ways.

November - From what little time they had spoken to each other, Dex just senses something wrong with the British gent. It's almost as if they're two people playing the same game, in this case, the game of acting completely normal when really they don't give a shit because haha serial killer numbness and contractor devoid-of-emotion bit.

Stellar - ...okay first person he met on the island, and in his confused state was just simply not in the mood for girls with speech impediments. So, currently, she had just succeeded in annoying him. However, they might again and change this opinion?

Naoto - Oh. Her. Dark Mysterious Tragic Past is a definite draw for him, as is his usual manner to bond with 'damaged' individuals. However, her determination to find her parents' murderer slightly off sets this connection, so while he wouldn't mind seeking her company, you can be sure Dexter's not going to all comfortable with Naoto neither.

Iceberg - Ahaha, big man with a pet mouse with a name of a dinosaur. While he feels no connection whatsoever with the man on a acquiantance basis, just knowing that Iceberg has the capabilities to build ships is a plus point to keep the man within his circle of 'people to be friendly with'.

Johan - God. At first it was all hunky dory just KNOWING that there was another person on the island like him, but in a glorious blaze this preconception comes crashing down as Johan mocks Dexter's Code of Harry. Not to mention being absolutely cryptic with Dexter. If there's one thing Dexter can't stand, it's the fact that he can't control a conversation. He's almost too used to the times when he's able to manipulate and fully guage where the conversation's going, but the german just has this brilliant knack of turning the tables on him and looking so calm when threatened and ARGHKILLHATE.

But that doesn't mean Dexter's going to kill him or anything. At this point in time, he would be torn between completely ignoring Johan's existance (since the latter hasn't confessed to killing anyone in cold blood rly) or stalking him for further evidence to justify Dexter hunting him. Although he would use the code as an excuse to get rid of Johan, we all know deep down that he just plain isn't comfortable with the man.

Nagato - Weird kid with no home? Intriguing.

Ema Skye - So she has a forensic background. As well as a healthy stash of medical equipment with her somewhere on the island. Dexter has definitely marked her as a target to steal stuff from, but also a potential threat if he were to perform any killings of his own. But she seems like an amatuer, and at this stage it doesn't bother him much.

Mikuru

Wonderwice

Ezra Scarlet

July

*last updated 20.JUNE.2007
